Press Release: Activists sign their anthology on sexualized violence with Rising Action

CANADA, January 2023 — Addy Strickland and Emma Kuzmyk have signed their selection of memoirs and poetry Writing Activism: Stories from the Front Lines of Campus Activism Against Sexualized Violence to Alexandria Brown at Rising Action Publishing Collective. 

Up for publication in Winter 2024, the collection features twenty-four contributors representing seven provinces across Canada. Covering stories from the founding of national campaigns to cases of sexual assault, Writing Activism legitimizes the voices of student activists who drive change. 

Addy Strickland is a writer, artist, and photographer based in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Passionate about storytelling in community development, she was deeply involved in protesting sexualized violence during her time at St. Francis Xavier University. She is currently working as a Youth Engagement Specialist with the Coady Institute’s Centre for Employment Innovation.

Emma Kuzmyk is an artist and poet based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Keen on channeling her artistic abilities into her activist work, she has illustrated prevention programs, performed poetry, and garnered national media attention through her work. She is currently working as the program coordinator for Action Now Atlantic.
