Press Release: Rising Action to release memoir recounting the life of Alvenia Bridges

CANADA, January 2023 — Alvenia Bridges and Maya Smith have signed their memoir Reclaiming Venus: The Many Lives of Alvenia Bridges to Alexandria Brown at Rising Action Publishing Collective. 

Up for publication in Fall 2024, Reclaiming Venus recounts the struggles Alvenia Bridges encountered as a Black woman working in the predominantly white male industry of Rock and Roll. By narrating her journey as a tour manager of the Rolling Stones, the memoir demonstrates the power one wields when telling a story on one’s own terms. 

Dr. Maya Angela Smith is an associate professor of French and Italian studies at the University of Washington. Interested in language, race, and migration, she has previously published Senegal Abroad: Linguistic Borders, Racial Formations, and Diasporic Imaginaries with the University of Wisconsin Press.
